If there’s one park you and your kids will fall in love in Barcelona this is Parc del Laberint d’Horta. This beautifully landscaped park contains a unique fairytale maze were your kids can “get lost” for a while. It’s not a tough maze but fun enough to play as a family.
As a plus, this park is still a bit off the beaten path, not one of the top sightseeing spots in Barcelona, so you will avoid the crowds while enjoying amazing views of the city and some time to chill out away from the traffic jams.
Maybe, the maze will get you thinking… should I turn left, or right? Should I let my kids decide? Whatever the direction you take, make sure to make the most of the experience. And if you do get lost, you can always cheat with Google. At the heart of the maze Eros will be waiting for you and the stairs leading to the neoclassical pavilions will show up after a few more steps, in front of your eyes.
Get lost and wander around a maze in Barcelona
Although the maze is probably the main reason why you will get to Parc del Laberint in the first place, don’t underestimate the garden itself as it´s quite a piece of art. Built for Marquis of Llupià and Alfarès back in the 18th century, it features neoclassical elements along with a truly Romantic garden. This park was a private property until 1970’s when it was opened to the public.
The romantic canal in Parc del Laberint was once sailed by small boats, the main neoclassic pavilion overviews the park and the city of Barcelona and the secret garden, with its romantic hideouts, will make of your visit one worth remembering.
Neoclassic Romantic walk
If you follow the steps of the Neoclassic Romantic route you will start your visit at the Chinese Gate, then wander by the domestic garden, walk through the maze to the small Ariadne and Danae sister temples. Do get a full view of the park before heading to the romantic garden to find a beautiful waterfall and many nooks under the shade of the trees.
Travelling with kids is not an issue in this museum garden as they will enjoy its many features, starting with the maze, the pond or the waterfall, but also including kids play area near the entrance where then they can burn out any extra left after the visit. There´s also a picnic area if you need to refuel and a bar where you can get some snacks.
The park is accessible by wheelchair which means no trouble if you are visiting with a stroller either.
