¿Looking for a nice place to brunch in Barcelona? Try the up and coming neighbourhood of Sant Antoni. There’s plenty of options there but since you are heading to Sant Antoni I strongly recommend Federal café.
With a relaxed and very cool atmosphere, this place offers some of the tastiest brunch options in the city. It’s great for kids, especially if you make it to their rooftop terrace and they have a wide selection of food, from the healthiest bites to the sweetest treats.
Freshly squeezed bio fruit juices, big cafés au lait and cappuccinos and homemade pies make it for a good start but don´t miss out on their menu for savoury options, my favourite.
The menu at Federal Café
Some of the bites you will find at Federal café menu are the morning bacon burger (bacon, free range egg, onion marmalade, sun-dried tomato-paste and English spinach) or the oven baked free-range eggs. My suggestion is to take the ones with crème fraîche, bacon, sage and toast, but if you are not big fan of crème fraîche, you can also have them with English spinach, halloumi, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto and toast.
Other egg options are the scrambled, fried or poached free-range eggs with toast and any extras you´d like (sautéed mushrooms, bacon, roasted tomato, avocado, fresh ricotta…) If you are on the healthier side, then you can have some Greek yogurt with honey, muesli and fresh fruit, organic porridge or chia pudding. They also offer some bruschetta with feta, hummus or smoked salmon.
Finally, other options are fresh toast, toasted brioche, homemade baked beans or morning veggie burger. For the kids, you can go for a brioche, a small sandwich or a croissant.
Federal café, much more than coffee
Federal is in one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in Barcelona and it attracts a crowd of your and hipsters, expats and tourists alike. Big wooden tables, pillows and a laid down atmosphere are part of the success story for this café. Also, the rooftop terrace helps make it quite unique. The terrace is open all year round.
Try to avoid peak hours by heading there in the earlier shift, otherwise it gets a bit crowded and service is not up to standards. Even though Federal is open all day long, brunch is the best time to head there. You can brunch from Tuesday to Friday until 1pm, Saturday until 4pm and Sunday all day long.
